We stood there in silence for a long
minute, staring out at the concrete block
apartments that surround the city.

"I considered her insight:
in the West, we're bombarded
with the exact opposite..."

We're supposed to get so excited about
what's spoon fed to us that we spend our waking
hours playing Monday morning quarterback or
pondering the goings on of TV programs.  Different
approaches, nearly the same results, I thought.
